Ciceley Motorsport will make its British GT Championship debut at Donington Park next month (September 22/23) with BTCC race winner Adam Morgan sharing the team’s newly-acquired Mercedes-AMG GT4 alongside Porsche Carrera Cup GB racer David Fairbrother.
The family-run outfit is using British GT’s two-hour season finale to gain valuable experience of the car ahead of its planned expansion into domestic and European GT racing, as well as confirmed Gulf 12 Hour and 24 Hours of Dubai outings.
Ciceley and Morgan won the Ginetta GT4 Supercup title together in 2011 before graduating to the British Touring Car Championship the following season. They have remained series front-runners ever since, first with Toyota and now Mercedes-Benz.
Fairbrother, meanwhile, has spent 2018 competing in Porsche Carrera Cup GB but has previously contested several Creventic endurance events and also won GT Cup’s GTB class title in 2015.
While Donington will represent Ciceley’s maiden British GT race as a team, its lead driver and owner have both competed before. Morgan’s only previous GT3 outing came at Oulton Park in 2011, while his father, Russell, made sporadic appearances aboard a Harrier LR9C and Marcos Mantis between 1996 and ‘98.
“Ciceley is predominantly known for its BTCC programme but the team has a history of competing in other series and the chance to try GT4 is something we’ve been looking at for a while,” said Morgan.
“Obviously we already have a very good relationship with Mercedes, and the fact we can run a GT4 car for multiple customers in Britain, Europe and the Creventic series makes a lot of sense commercially. Where next year takes us remains to be seen, but we are eager to learn as much as we can about the class and endurance racing generally ahead of 2019. British GT’s round at Donington allows us to tick all of those boxes.
“It’s very different to what I’m used to but I can’t wait to work in partnership with another driver and also race over a longer distance. GT4 has changed out of all recognition since I was last there in 2011 so I’m sure it will be a bit of an eye-opener!”
