Juncos Racing gave a further boost to the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship today announcing that the team will enter a Cadillac DPi-V.R for the full Championship.
Juncos’s single car entry then joins the expected pairs of Cadillacs from Action Express and JDC Miller, and a single car from Wayne Taylor Racing as Cadillac’s full season representatives with the Spirit of Daytona team as yet unable to confirm their plans for 2019.
With expected continued presence from two car Acura Penske and Mazda Team Joest efforts, a DPi entry in double figures now looks assured, with ESM on a sponsor search to secure a return with their Nissan engined Ligier DPis
Juncos Racing currently runs in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, the Indy Lights Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, and the Verizon IndyCar Series.
Juncos Racing will make their first official run in the DPi at The Roar Before the Rolex 24 on Jan. 4-6, 2019 at Daytona International Speedway followed by the season opener, the Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona, which will be run on the weekend of Jan. 26-27.
Team Principal Ricardo Juncos is confident that the expansion into the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with Cadillac is a step forward for the whole Juncos Racing program. Juncos Racing has recorded 58 wins and 9 championships over the course of the past 10 years.
“Our entry into the top class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship represents a significant step forward for our Company and also bolsters the depth and technical acumen of our Teams. We are also excited and humbled by the partnership with Cadillac and look forward to representing the Cadillac brand in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Cadillac has a proven history of winning and performance within IMSA and provides Juncos Racing with a championship caliber partner to begin its entry into DPi,” stated Team Owner Ricardo Juncos.
Delivery of the Cadillac DPi-V.R is set for the beginning of November and testing is set to start in December. The 2019 driver line-up is currently being finalized and will be released at a later date.
“We have worked very hard in the last 20 years to compete as a championship caliber Team at all levels of competition and also recognize everyone in our racing family, past and present, that have helped us realize our vision of success, our development as a Team, and our passion to work hard and achieve results,” Ricardo Juncos continued.
“The Cadillac Racing family continues to grow thanks to strong on-track performances by each team that has campaigned the DPi-V.R in its first two seasons of competition,” said Laura Wontrop Klauser, Cadillac Racing Program Manager. “The addition of Juncos Racing brings more top-tier talent to Cadillac’s DPi-V.R program and more excitement to the IMSA grid.”
“The accomplishments of Ricardo and his Juncos Racing team are impressive, especially having been achieved in such a relatively short period of time,” IMSA President Scott Atherton said. “He is an inspiration for the entire industry. We are pleased and honored by the news of Juncos Racing coming into IMSA along with our partners at Cadillac Racing. Having top-tier teams continue to invest in IMSA and our DPi class is the ultimate validation. This is good news for all involved, but especially our fans.”
