Update On Serious Accident At Monza

Drivex AMG driver Alan Hellmeister hurt at end of GT Open race

We have just received this update from the International GT Open organisers after a serious accident occurred as the second Monza race this weekend finished – DSC has held our race report whilst awaiting confirmation of the condition of the driver concerned, Drivex AMG GT3 driver Alan Hellmeister, the accident saw Hellmeister’s Drivex-run Mercedes AMG GT3 turned into the pit wall at high speed, suffering major front end damage before briefly getting airborne and crossing the track to the outside barrier:

“An accident involving the Drivex-entered Mercedes #16 occurred seconds after the chequered flag in today’s Race 2 of the GT Open at Monza.

“The driver, Alan Hellmeister, was extricated and brought to the Medical Center. He was conscious at every moment and presented fractures in both legs.

“After being stabilized, he was taken by ambulance to San Gerardo Hospital in Monza. Updates will follow as they become available.”
