After the biblical downpour yesterday afternoon the weather is being much kinder today at the Algarve International Circuit, a cool and breezy morning, still with low dark cloud, with clearer skies promised for Qualifying this afternoon.
A 1:33.097 for the #28 IDEC Sport ORECA of Paul Loup Chatin topped the session, and headlined an ORECA 1-2-3 with the #21 Dragonspeed (Lapierre) and #26 G-Drive (Vergen) next up – half a second separating the top three.
The LMP3 pack again saw several cars run very limited laps, pre-weekend testing has shown the teams that tyres are likely to be critical in this race – and with plenty of running under their belts already, the opportunity to conserve their racing rubber has been eagerly grasped by a number of likely race, and championship, contenders!
In the session it was the #19 M.Racing YMR Norma that topped the session, 1:40.145 from Lucas Legeret, four tenths up on Mikkel Jensen’s best effort in the #9 AT Racing Ligier.
GTE saw Matteo Cairoli top the times in the #88 Proton Porsche, well amongst the middle order of LMP3s with a best effort of 1:41.786, half a second clear of Miguel Molina’s best in the #66 JMW Ferrari with the #89 EbiMotors Porsche third fastest, a further eight tenths back.
