A late addition to the timetable for the 6 Hours of Shanghai at the end of next week sees an extra practice session scheduled from 8am to 9:45 am on Friday 16 November specifically for the LMP1 teams.
The FIA WEC say that this session, before Free Practice 1, has been introduced “specifically for the LMP1 teams to carry out test and development work with tyre manufacturer Michelin.
“The session has been organised in order to allow both the teams and the tyre manufacturer alike time for testing and development of tires for use in the future.”
That seems to suggest that Michelin is developing at least a partial solution to the current performance deficit between the factory Toyota Hybrids and the privateer-entered non-hybrid LMP1s and comes after a bad-tempered response from the privateers to a last-minute EoT change at Fuji last time out that still saw the cars having to lift and coast on each racing lap to meet the required fuel efficiency figures.
There is no news as yet of any further change to the Equivalency of Technology before Shanghai.
