DragonSpeed Confirm A Second LMP2 Entry For 2019 Rolex 24 Hours

Maldonado and Gonzalez named in second ORECA Gibson

DragonSpeed has added a second LMP2 entry from the US-flagged team for the 2019 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

After confirming in October that the team’s full-season ELMS Oreca 07 Gibson (above) would contest the race with Nico Lapierre, Ben Hanley and Henrik Hedman, Team Principal Elton Julian has today confirmed to DSC that their second ORECA Gibson, a full season WEC entry, will also be entered with two of the regular WEC crew: Roberto Gonzalez and ex F1 man Pastor Maldonado already confirmed for the effort.

That should mean that a trio of European-based ORECAs should join the Daytona entry with the newly acquired RLR MSport ORECA Gibson also set to confirm an effort.

With both PR1 Mathieson and Performance Tech also set to confirm their ORECA entries the opening race of the IMSA season should still have a healthy LMP2 contingent, even if the remainder of the season currently looks less well populated in the newly separated class.
