On Tuesday, a track day at Fuji Speedway became the first exhibition of the next-generation Toyota Prius GT developed by apr Racing.
With thanks to YouTube user “nenkatsu”, we have footage of the new 2019 Prius in action at Fuji:
Earlier reports of the previous-generation Toyota Prius apr GT’s successor have been confirmed – the mid-engined Prius GT will indeed be replaced by a completely redesigned version of the same car, with a front-engined layout complying with the current JAF-GT300 regulations.
There’s also a new sound emanating from the bonnet of the new GT300 Prius – that of the 5.4 litre V8 engine sourced from the Lexus RC F GT3, which replaces the long-serving RV8K powerplant once used in Toyota’s GT500, Formula Nippon, and LMP1 efforts.
Drivers Manabu Orido and Hiroaki Nagai led a successful shakedown of the new Prius at Fuji on 4 December, with no major issues in their time on track.
apr Racing owner Hiroto Kaneso confirmed in a press release that the team’s new car will be unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, from 11-13 January at the Makuhari Messe convention centre in Chiba.
