The Asian Le Mans Series has confirmed that the current generation of LMP2 cars will be eligible to race in the series next season.
This confirmation comes two years after it was originally proposed by series organisers. Older generation LMP2 cars )which currently make up the entire LMP2 field) will still be allowed to race in Asian Le Mans as part of this change though, in the LMP2 Am Trophy class.
The series’ statement reads: “The decision was made after close consultation with the teams proved that there was demand for both the old and the new generation LMP2 cars to be run in the Series. The teams unanimously support the decision as the right way forward for the series.
“As in the 2018/19 series, there will continue to be an invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans on offer for both the LMP2 Championship winner, and the LMP2 AM Trophy winner.
“The full details will be released as a part of the technical and sporting regulations for the 2019/20 Asian Le Mans Series.”
