Current FIA WEC GTE Am points leader Team Project 1 has confirmed to DSC that it plans to continue racing in the WEC after the current season ends and enter a Porsche 911 RSR in the 2019/20 season.
The German outfit, which has a long history of success in Porsche one-make series, made its WEC debut at the start of the ‘Super Season’ and already has a GTE Am class win to its name, which came back in October at Fuji.
This news of its plans to race in the WEC beyond this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours comes off the back of its announcement that it will also be racing in the European Le Mans Series’ budding (nine-car) GTE class this year with a Porsche. For its two programmes, the team is to acquire a second 911 RSR.
This means that five cars across three teams are now confirmed publically for the 2019/20 WEC season. To this point, Toyota Gazoo Racing, Cetilar Racing and United Autosports have revealed their plans to race in the WEC beyond this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. Project 1 is therefore also the first GTE team to confirm its participation.
A Project 1 spokesperson told DSC that it plans to firm up its Porsche one-make plans for 2019 very soon too.
