The #55 Mazda RT-24P once again paced the practice session from Sebring. Harry Tincknell, one of many drivers doing double-duty this weekend, clocked in a 1:46.953, the car itself completing 26 laps in the session.
Just behind the #55 was the #31 Whelen Engineering Action Express Cadillac DPi-V.R. with a best time of 1:47.165 thanks to the efforts of Felipe Nasr, who went quickest in FP1 earlier this week.
The #77 Mazda RT-24P was third fastest, this time Timo Bernhard was the one to set the benchmark for that car. It completed 38 laps and set a time of 1:47.559, just over half a second behind their sister car.
LMP2 was once again led by the #52 PR1 Mathiasen Oreca 07, Matthew McMurry set a 1:51.766. That time was roughly three seconds faster than the #38 Performance Tech Motorsports ORECA 07.
Corvette and its #3 C7.R topped the GTLM charts. Antonio Garcia put down a 1:56.954 after the car completed 27 laps. They ended the session just a tenth of a second faster than the #67 Ford GT.
That #67 Ford’s lap time came as a result of Richard Westbrook, who recently took ownership of his road-going Ford GT, setting a 1:57.090. Just behind them, and making it Ford second and third was the #66 Ford GT, their best time being a 1:57.364 from Dirk Mueller.
This was the first Free Practice session of the weekend to not be topped by a Porsche in GTLM. The German marque was not far behind, however, with Laurens Vanthoor setting a 1:57.485 in the #912 Porsche 911 RSR to go fourth quickest. Four tenths behind them were the #24 BMW M8 GTE with Jesse Krohn making it four manufacturers in five spots.
Finally, in GTD, the #44 Magnus Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo ended the session in first. Andy Lally put in a 2:00.947, with the car completing 34 laps.
The #86 Meyer-Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 came extremely close to the top spot after Trent Hindman’s best time of 2:01.008. Making it two Lamborghinis in the top three spots was the 2019 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona winners in the #11 GRT Grasser Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo whose best time of the session was a 2:01.024 from Mirko Bortolotti.
Qualifying for the IMSA 12 Hours of Sebring is scheduled for Friday at 13:55 GMT.
