For the second consecutive year the Ford GT GTE Pro effort has been hit with a post-race penalty following the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The #68 Ford Chip Ganassi Team USA entry of Sebastien Bourdais, Joey Hand and Dirk Muller has been excluded from their 4th place finish in GTE Pro after the fuel tank capacity was found to be in excess of the applied Balance of performance – 97.83 litres measured from the tank against a permitted maximum of 97 litres, the team explaining that they had adjusted the capacity against a pre-race BoP change but that they did not have access at the circuit to the properly calibrated measuring devices.
The full Stewards decision can be found below.
The exclusion of the #68 promotes the #67 Ford GT of Harry Tincknell, Andy Priaulx and Jonathan Bomarito to fourth in class.
Last year saw two Ford – the #67 and #69 penalised for driving time infringements.
One additional car is understood (and has been observed by DSC) to still be under investigation.
