ELMS and Le Mans Cup regular Nielsen Racing has announced that it will return to the Asian Le Mans Series for a second season in 2019/20, and compete with a Norma M30 LMP3.
The team, therefore, becomes the first to enter Norma’s current (but outgoing) LMP3 chassis in the Asian Le Mans Series. Previously Ligier, Ginetta and Adess chassis have all made appearances in the pan-Asian series’ LMP3 category.
Last season the team made its Asian Le Mans debut and campaigned a pair of Ligier JS P3s under the Ecurie Ecosse/Nielsen Racing banner. While only a single entry has been confirmed for the upcoming season by the team, it has not ruled out running a second car at this stage.
Nielsen Racing Team Principal, David “Sven” Thompson said “We are delighted to be returning to Asia this winter after our experience last year.
“It’s a great series and this time we are focused on an outright LMP3 victory and the prized Le Mans 24-hours entry that accompanies it. The Norma has proved to be extremely competitive in Europe this year and we expect much the same in Asia.”
Cyrille Taesch Wahlen, the managing director of the Asian Le Mans Series added:
“We are very happy to not only welcome back Nielsen Racing to the Asian Le Mans Series but also to welcome Norma to the Series.
The new manufacturer is a welcome addition to what is shaping up to be a very strong LMP3 Class battle!”
Drivers will be announced later this month.
