IDEC On Top In Night Practice

Ferrari 1-2 in GTE

There were expectations that the first-ever ELMS official night session would support faster lap times as track and air temperatures dropped throughout the evening. But in the end, fastest laps snatched in all three categories were all slower than during FP1.

In LMP2, Paul Lafargue was the quickest driver in the session in the #28 IDEC Sport ORECA 07 Gibson with a 1:34.359, some six tenths ahead of the #21 Dragonspeed ORECA 07 Gibson driven by Henrik Hedman, Ben Hanley and James Allen.

The #43 RLR MSport ORECA 07 shared by John Farano, Bruno Senna and Arjun Maini ended up taking third position, 1.2 seconds behind the class-leading car.

The #22 United Autosport Ligier JSP217 ended in fourth position (1:35.736).

Further down in the LMP2 ranks the championship-leading car, the #26 G-Drive Racing Aurus, covered a large number of laps (46) but finished ninth (1:36.923), some 2.7 seconds slower than their fastest first practice session lap.

Meanwhile, in LMP3, Lucas Legeret was the fastest in the #19 MRacing Norma M30 (1:43.331). The Frenchman was less than five-tenths quicker than the championship-leading car, the #11 Eurointernational Ligier JSP3 shared by Mikkel Jensen and Jens Petersen (1:43.809).

The #9 Realteam Racing Norma M30 driven by David Droux finished sixth in its class (1:44.475) after a difficult session where the Frenchman stopped at Turn 8 and triggered a lengthy full course yellow episode.

Further down in the ranks; the Oregon Team Norma M30 #10 only managed four laps. The car encountered mechanical issues and returned to the pits for lengthy repairs.

Finally, in the LMGTE class, it was a Ferrari 1-2. Aaron Scott was the fastest in the #55 Spirit of Race (1:45.421), followed by the #51 Luzich Racing Ferrari F488 GTE Evo shared by Alessandro Pier Guidi, Nicklas Nielsen and Fabien Lavergne. The the #77 Dempsey Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR, which leads the championship, finished fourth in class (1:45.940).

Team Project 1 had a difficult evening with David Heinemeier Hansson stopping at Turn 9 some 25 minutes into the session and triggering a full course yellow episode. The #56 was ultimately the slowest LMGTE car in the session (1:47.035).

Next up for the ELMS runners is the qualifying session held today at 10:40 am local time.
