Phil Keen was fastest of the GT3 runners in Saturday morning’s first free-practice session for the Brands Hatch British GT round. The #72 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini driver went round the circuit’s Grand Prix layout in 1:25.337, nearly nine tenths faster than the second-quickest car, the Ram Racing Mercedes of Calum Macleod.
Tom Onslow-Cole (subbing for Adam Christodoulou in the Abba Mercedes due to a VLN clash for the second time this year) was third fastest on a 1:26.330, ahead of championship leader Jonny Cocker in the #69 Barwell Lamborghini on a 1:26.447. Seb Morris in the JRM Bentley and Rob Bell in the Balfe McLaren completed the GT3 top six, clocking a 1:26.524 and 1:26.598 respectively.
Fastest in GT4 was Scott Malvern in the Team Parker Mercedes, setting a 1:33.263 early in the session that wasn’t topped throughout. The Ash Hand/Tom Canning TF Sport Aston Martin was second-fastest, just under half a second behind on a 1:33.706. The duo go into this weekend leading the GT4 Silver Cup standings and third in the overall GT4 points tally.
Championship leader Scott Maxwell set a 1:33.764 to go third-fastest in the #15 Multimatic Mustang, ahead of Richard Williams in the #29 Steller Audi (1:33.937) and Pro-Am championship leader Martin Plowman in the #11 Beechdean Aston Martin. The #57 Pointon/MacDonald HHC McLaren rounded out the top six in GT4.
FP2 follows at 12:50pm, with qualifying kicking off 4:30pm.
