FIA World Rally Championship team Toksport WRT is due to make its ADAC GT Masters debut as a Mercedes customer team at the Nürburgring and Zandvoort ahead of a planned 2020 programme.
The German team, based in the Eifel region, which currently runs Skoda Fabia R5s in WRC 2 and the European Rally Championship, has ventured out of off-road racing in the past. It has experience racing in the WTCC and various single-make Porsche Cup series.
For its ADAC GT debut, it will race a Mercedes AMG GT3 with Luca Stolz and Maro Engel.
“The ADAC GT Masters is one of the world’s toughest GT championships,” says team principal Emre Buyukbayrak.
“For us as a German team, it therefore makes a lot of sense to be part of the line-up. We know how competitive this series is. We aim to gain as much experience as possible, because we plan to field two cars throughout the whole of the 2020 season. In Luca and Maro, we have a strong driver pairing and therefore hope to be in contention for top positions.”
Luca Stolz competed in the ADAC GT Masters from 2014 to 2018, during which time he notched up one win and booked five pole positions. He looks forward to returning to the German series for the next two races with Toksport.
“It’s a great prospect to be contesting two race weekends in the ADAC GT Masters. We have two good drivers who have a lot of experience of the Mercedes-AMG and are therefore able to help the team. I’ve known Toksport WRT for some time, and they are a professional outfit.”
