Medical Update, Christian England Awaiting Surgery After Portimao Accident

Multi-car ELMS shunt

After a lap one accident at the ELMS race at Portimao that saw seven cars involved, six of which were eliminated from the race, United Autosports LMP3 driver Christian England is now confirmed with a broken right ankle, lower leg & bones in his right foot.

His #2 Ligier JSP3 made very heavy front end contact with the rear of the half-spun Carlin Dallara of Jack Manchester after the LMP2 car had a brush on the exit of T5 with the #39 Graff ORECA and spun in the centre of the track.

There were subsequent impacts on the Dallara from the #77 Dempsey Proton Porsche, Christian Ried walking away from the car after it suffered significant rear-end damage, the #88 Proton Porsche, Steffen Görig also able to walk from a heavily damaged 911 RSR, the #10 Oregon Norma of Damiano Fioravanti, the driver taken to hospital after an initial check at the medical centre, plus the #83 Kessel Ferrari, retired in the pits after being driven from the scene with heavy front-end damage, and the #66 JMW Ferrari, recovered tot he pits with repairable damage, rejoining the race several laps down.

Jack Manchester was back in the paddock post-race feeling a little sore but concerned about Christian England, the United man set to have surgery tomorrow morning.
