Hiroshi Hamaguchi was set the fastest time in the Qualifying session for Qualifying Race One for GT Cup contest of the FIA Motorsport Games at Vallelunga, the morning session on a still damp track featuring the lower-ranked drivers who will also take the start for the first race. Hamaguchi set a time of 1:40.381 in the Japanese-flagged #519 Lamborghini, prepped by Orange 1 FFF Racing, 0.665 clear of the Russian entry, the #88 Ferrari of Rinat Salikhov.
That pair took full advantage of the track beginning to dry at the very end of the session, third-fastest Salih Yoluc in the Team Turkey/ TF Sport Aston Martin a full 2 seconds slower. The session saw a formal reprimand for France’s Jean-Luc Beaubelique for a dangerous rejoining of the track, the AKKA ASP AMG languishing in 18th at the checkered flag.
2019 Asian F3 Champion Ukyo Sasahara made it a double pole position for Japan in Qualifying session 2 for the GT Cup contest of the FIA Motorsport Games at Vallelunga.
He did so by setting a 1:32.898 in the #519 Lamborghini on a drying track, a mark that was matched to the thousandth by Team France’s Jim Pla in the #87 AKKA ASP-prepared AMG GT3 just moments later.
Patric Niederhauser and Brenton Grove would form the second row for Team Switzerland (Lamborghini) and team Australia (Porsche) respectively, the top eight within a second, the field split by 2.9 seconds in the session.
The two 60 minute Qualifying races take place this afternoon and tomorrow morning with the grid for the 60-minute Main race for the medals tomorrow set by a points score across both.
