Academy Motorsport will race Multimatic Mustangs in the British GT and European GT4 Championships in 2020. The team’s pair of Ford Mustang GT4s will be prepared and raced by Academy Motorsport with full support from Multimatic Motorsports.
The Ford Mustang GT4 made its debut in the British GT Championship in 2019, bursting onto the scene with pole position at Oulton Park in the hands of Seb Priaulx. The #15 Multimatic Mustang retained the same driver line-up of Priaulx and Scott Maxwell throughout the season, taking two race wins and finishing as runners-up in the GT4 championship.
The #19 Mustang was entered as a guest car and provided much entertainment for the British GT fans with racers including Andy Priaulx, Billy Johnson and Sir Chris Hoy behind the wheel.
The Ford Mustang GT4 proved itself both fast and, with a 17/18 finish record, reliable.
Multimatic Chief Technical Officer, Larry Holt, said: “It’s great to have the Academy Motorsport guys joining the Ford Performance family and we know they are the right people to continue the work we started in Europe with the Mustang GT4 in 2019. The car has already proven itself in North America so it is good to see its continued success in Europe.”
Academy Motorsport will carry the Ford Performance banner in Europe, taking up where Multimatic Motorsports left off with the Mustang GT4s last season. The team has won Ginetta G20 and Ginetta Junior titles and are mainstays of both the British GT Championship and the European GT4 series, but previously as an Aston Martin customer team.
“We are delighted to be representing Ford Performance and Multimatic in Europe,” said Academy Motorsport MD, Matt Nicoll-Jones. “This is what we have aspired to since we started Academy Motorsport, 19 years ago.
“Our aspirations have always been to excel in GT racing and I believe that this partnership with Multimatic and association with Ford Performance will provide us with a truly competitive package. The product and support speaks for itself, with the results of the Mustangs this year alone convincing us that this was the right path.”
Academy Motorsport has also become a Multimatic-approved agent for the Ford Mustang GT4 in Europe.
