The 2019 25 Hours of Thunderhill gets underway today with a reborn old warhorse on pole position. With rain forecast for the dark hours of the race, the arrival of rain for qualifying wasn’t altogether bad news, but it did mean that a rather more conservative approach to qualifying for many.
Less cautious than most though were Team JFC Racing who took pole with the only sub 2-minute lap of the session in their ex- SpeedSource Team Mazda Lola B12/80, now re-engined with a twin-turbo V8, developed in-house using a pair of superbike engines.
IMSA and World Challenge GT racer Tom Dyer managed a lap in 1:59.406, a chunk clear of a pair of Radical SR3s from Team One Motorsports and Turn 3 Motorsport.
The JFC Lola line-u[p also features the talents of Ryan Eversley aboard with other entries also featuring some familiar names including Colin Braun and John Falb.
The forecast is predicting on-and-off showers with strong wind throughout the day and into the night for the race.
The race gets underway at 11 am local time in California with live timing and video streaming available online.
