The Group C Years, A Fans Journey, 1990 Donington 480 Km

Photography by Nigel Barrett

2 September 1990 saw the Shell Donington 480km, round seven of a nine-race World Sportscar Championship that was utterly dominated by the Sauber Mercedes C11, the Swiss-based team fully focused on the Championship, opting to miss out Le Mans as it was not a Championship round that year, how times change!

At Donington Park, a 33 car entry assembled but nobody would have an answer to the crushing superiority of the Silver Arrows. A one-two came at a canter, the Manufacturers and drivers titles already safe for the team, and for Jean Louis Schlesser and Mauro Baldi.
