Mercedes-AMG has confirmed that it will provide support to AKKA ASP and newly-established squad HRT at the Total 24 Hours of Spa (22-25 October) as the marque targets a first overall victory at the 24 Hours since 2013 in the 10th anniversary of its customer racing programme this year.
Part of the Mercedes-AMG fold since 2015, Jerome Policand’s squad will field Timur Boguslavskiy, Felipe Fraga and Raffaele Marciello at Spa.
HRT will field Vincent Abril, Maro Engel and Luca Stolz in the full Endurance Cup, and has also assembled an experienced staff for its debut season under ex Black Falcon team manager Sean Paul Breslin.
Simpson moves to Mercedes-AMG for 2020 AGT assault
Ryan Simpson will contest the 2020 Australian GT Championship Sprint series in the ex-Mark Griffith Mercedes-AMG GT3.
After previous seasons with the Parramatta Smash Repairs team in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and V8 Touring Cars, Simpson showed great pace in the 59Racing McLaren 720S GT3 as the additional endurance driver alongside Fraser Ross last season, plus a one-off McLaren GT4 appearance in the support race for the 2019 Australian Grand Prix), Simpson has decided on a return in charge of his own team.
That effort will be supported by experienced GT outfit Eggleston Motorsport team who will prepare, transport and engineer the Simpson entry alongside there own Peter Hackett entry in the #63 Mercedes-AMG GT3.
The #16 Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be supported by Mercedes Benz Parramatta, Parramatta Smash Repairs and PPG.
Paul Miller Racing Pause
As reported HERE on RACER.com Paul Miller Racing’s Rolex 24 Hours GTD Lamborghini effort has been paused in reaction to Paul Millers core retail automotive business having suffered significant layoffs during the COVID-19 crisis.
There is currently no indication as to when the effort will return to the IMSA grid.
