IMSA News Notebook From Sebring

by Ryan Kish

Former Mazda DPi driver Spencer Pigot will make his return to the IMSA Weathertech Series this weekend in the #52 PR1 Mathiasen ORECA 07.

The team’s normal full-season driver Simon Trummer is unable to compete at Sebring this weekend due to travel restrictions, the team said in a Twitter post.

“I’m really looking forward to joining PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports this weekend in Sebring. I’ve seen their name in many different series over the years winning races and championships so it will be great to be part of the team,” Pigot said.

He will be joined in the car by Patrick Kelly.

“I know Patrick Kelly has been working very hard to prepare and get himself in race trim, which will be very important with the events schedules being very tight,” Team Principal Bobby Oergel said. “We are happy to welcome Spencer Pigot to the family and feel very strong about his abilities to help the program in many ways.”

Nasr Returns

Felipe Nasr received clearance to return to the IMSA paddock following two negative COVID-19 tests an after having to miss the July Daytona race as a result of testing positive for COVID-19.

Gabby Chaves filled in for him at Daytona. Chaves and Pipo Derani finished that race in fifth.

Taylor Hagler Misses Sebring After Testing Positive For COVID-19

Taylor Hagler, driver of the #77 LA Honda World Civic in the Michelin Pilot Challenge series announced earlier this week that she will have to miss the Sebring round after testing positive for COVID-19.

“I was ready to get my gear back in after a long break, but unfortunately COVID-19 is changing even more of my plans. I’m going to miss the Sebring race this weekend as I complete my recovery,” Hagler wrote on Twitter.

Her co-driver, Ryan Eversley, will be joined by Dakota Dickerson.
