Plans are afoot to field a race-prepped Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio at the 2020 Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Scuderia del Portello, who fielded a variety of Alfas around the turn off the 21st century in the race (see below), but have been absent since 2003 are set to bring their Lanza Motorsport-prepped Giulia to the fray.
Lanza has plenty of experience of the rigours of the race having prepared cars for 18 editions of the twice round the clock German classic.
The 1400 kg Giulia Quadrifoglio will be powered by a 500bhp+ 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 and will compete in the SP8T class.
The four drivers for the team will include 63-year-old Mauro Simoncini who raced for the team at the 2000 Nürburgring 24 Hours in an Alfa Romeo 155 and has raced a further 15 times since, he also has class wins to his credit on the ‘Ring.
He’ll be joined by three other Italian VLN and N24 veterans:
Ugo Vicenzi, the 62-year-old has 8 starts and 2 podiums at the N24 plus 40 VLN starts;
Alberto Carobbio is the baby of the bunch at 58 years old, a VLN regular with four appearances so far at the N24; and
Bruno Barbaro, another 63-year-old with plenty of ‘Ring racing experience in VLN and N24, mostly aboard a Toyota GT86.
