Attempto Audi Grabs Pole At Imola

AF Corse Ferrari also on front row

The #66 Attempto Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo of Mattia Drudi, Kim-Luis Schramm and Frederic Vervisch took pole position at Imola for the first Endurance Cup round of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

The combined efforts of the three drivers across the three short qualifying sessions produced a combined average time of 1:41.799, just enough to see off the challenge from fellow front-row starters James Calado, Nicklas Nielsen and Alessandro Pier Guidi in the #51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo who came up just 0.144 of a second short, the top 26 cars posting average times time within a single second.

Frederic Vervisch, #66 Attempto Racing Audi: “What can I say?! All three drivers did a great job today and I am so, so proud of the whole team. Being together was quite a late decision, so I’m extremely happy to be P1. This is my first race of the season and it’s really nice to have the adrenaline kick in and feel your heart beating before an important session. Imola is a great circuit where there’s not much room for error, so it’s a real drivers’ track. Tomorrow the plan is to win and we’ve shown that the team and the car have the potential. But we all know that many things can happen in these races, so we need to be error-free.”

The cars which topped the earlier sessions, the #88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes AMG-GT3 Evo which was fastest on Saturday Morning in the hands of Raffaele Marciello, and the #31 Team WRT which saw Mirko Bortolotti top Pre-Qualifying, both finished amongst the top 5.

The AMG third fastest in Qualifying, Marciello joined by Felipe Fraga and Timur Boguslavskiy, and the Audi fifth, Bortolotti joined by Matthieu Vaxivière and Kelvin van de Linde.

Between the pair will start the fastest of the Porches in the session, the #13 GPX Racing 911 GT3 R of Matt Campbell, Mathieu Jaminet and Patrick Pilet.

The top ten was rounded out by the #4 Haupt Racing team AMG, the Silver Cup-entered #15 Tech One Lexus, the z#3 K-Pax Bentley, the #72 SMP racing Ferrari and the #54 Dinamic Porsche.

In the classes, the Lexus qualifying performance saw them well clear of the #159 Garage 59 Aston Martin in Silver Cup (17th) with the #78 Barwell Lamborghini in 20th.

Pro-Am was headed by the #93 SKY Tempesta Ferrari (32nd) ahead of the #77 Barwell Huracan (34th) and the #87 AKKA ASP AMG (35th).

The there hour race is due to start at 1:30 pm local (12:30 UK) Live and free on the GT World YouTube channel.
