On Thursday, 6 August 2020, the GT Association (GTA) announced the provisional schedule for the 2021 Autobacs Super GT Series.
Eight rounds are scheduled as usual, and if somehow things are back to anything like the old normal by the start of the next racing season, the 2021 calendar will look something like what the original 2020 calendar was, prior to the massive overhaul caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic.
This would mean six domestic races at all six of the major Japanese circuits, starting with the season-opening round at Okayama International Circuit on 10-11 April. Fuji Speedway will return to just a single date, with the Golden Week tradition that is the Fuji 500km, on 3-4 May. The first leg of the domestic calendar will wrap up on 29-30 May at historic Suzuka Circuit.
The series will make its planned visits to Chang International Circuit in Thailand, and finally, make its return to Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. These rounds will take place in the summer, with dates to be announced in the future.
Sportsland Sugo returns to the calendar on 11-12 September, as does Autopolis, hosting the penultimate round on 23-24 October. Finally, the 2021 season will conclude at Twin Ring Motegi, on 6-7 November.
