HubAuto Racing will field Toyota Gazoo Racing factory driver Kamui Kobayashi alongside their 24 Hours of Le Mans pairing Marcos Gomes and Tom Blomqvist for the 2020 Spa 24 Hours next month aboard the team’s Asian Le Mans Series GT class Championship-winning Ferrari 488GT3 Evo.
“HubAuto are delighted to have Kamui join Tom and Marcos for the Total 24 Hours of Spa. Kamui brings a wealth of endurance racing experience. Combined with the enduro experience of Tom and Marcos we have a very confident driver line up.” Team Principal and owner Morris Chen said.
Kobayashi finished 3rd at Le Mans this year and has contested the Spa 24 Hours before for Team Goodsmile in 2017, racing again in GT3 for the Japanese outfit at the Suzuka 10 Hours in both 2018 and 2019.
He starts his post F1 career in GTE machinery with efforts for AF Corse and Team Taisan in the FIA WEC and Asian Le Mans Series respectively.
Fellow Platinum driver, Tom Blomqvist first raced for the Taiwanese outfit at this year’s 24 Hour of Le Mans, taking the team to the class lead in the early stages of the race. Chen said: “We were always impressed by Tom and knew signing him for the two 24 Hour races would be the right thing for the team.”
Existing HubAuto Racing driver and 2019/2020 Asian Le Mans Driver Champion Marcos Gomes completes the experienced driver line up. “Marcos always shows his cool and stamina under pressure in endurance events and we are sure he will do a good job for us at the Total 24 Hour of Spa.” Chen said.
Kobayashi is the second Ex-F1 driver to join the HubAuto driver list after Heikki Kovalainen was part of the team’s Suzuka 10 Hour driver line up in 2019.
