The results of discussions over the future shape of the permitted crews in the LMP2 class for ACO rules racing is set to be determined by a confirming vote at next month’s meeting of the FIA World Motorsport Council.
After the FIA Endurance Committee discussed options at their meeting earlier this month and is believed to have recommended that the class should see a minimum of two Silver-ranked drivers starting from the 2021 season or a single Bronze in a three-driver squad.
Several drivers have confirmed to DSC that they have been contacted by significant numbers of teams anticipating that outcome.
Whilst the FIA would determine the Regulations only for the WEC, it is almost inevitable that the same regulations would be adopted by the ACO’s two continental Series in Europe and Asia to assure parity when the teams come together at Le Mans.
The current sporting regulations mandate that a two or three-driver line-up must include at least one Silver or Bronze driver.
