The 2021 Intercontinental GT Challenge will take place over four rounds after the confirmation earlier this week of the cancellation of the 2021 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
After reaffirming commitment to the 2020 Kyalami 9 Hours (Dec 10-12) to conclude the current season, Stephane Ratel told a press conference at Spa on Saturday that after consideration was given to adding the 2022 Bathurst 12 Hour to the 2021 season, the decision had been taken to restrict the season to four rounds for the year.
Ratel made it clear that his personal preference was to keep to the calendar year arrangement, and offered an opinion that he had not liked the move by the FIA WEC to move to a winter-based timetable and that concluding the season at the end of the year offered the manufacturers involved an opportunity to mark their successes in the traditional way and their end of season celebrations.
Dates are published for the 221 Spa 24 Hours, Suzuka 10 Hours and the Indianapolis 8 Hour with Kyalami’s date in December 2021 still to be finalised.
