The 2017/2018 Asian Le Mans Series LMP3 champions, Patrick Byrne and Guy Cosmo will join Don Yount in the #38 Performance Tech Motorsports ORECA 07 for the Sebring 12 Hours, the finale of the 2020 IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship season.
Alongside their LMP3 success, Byrne and Cosmo have extensive experience in LMP2, but this will be their first time behind the wheel of the ORECA. Cosmo has experience with United Autosports and Rick Ware Racing in the Ligier JSP2 in the AsLMS.
Byrne has similar LMP2 experience and has driven a Bentley Continental GT in GT World Challenge America. The combination of Byrne, Cosmo, and Yount, who last raced with Performance Tech at the Rolex 24, sets the team up with a strong lineup for Sebring.
“This current generation of ORECA LMP2 cars is extremely demanding so I’ve ramped up my cardio and weight training which I’m hoping will ultimately lead to success through the long 12-hour race which is sure to have some long stints,” Byrne said.
“The end goal is to go the distance and finish strong as a whole team and lay down the fastest most consistent laps possible. I look forward to partnering with my long-time super teammate Guy Cosmo, and we are both excited to join and drive with Don Yount,” Byrne added.
Cosmo has been trying to partner with Performance Tech team principal Brent O’Neill for some time and is excited that the opportunity finally presented itself to race in IMSA again.
“It’s been a number of years since I’ve been in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, but I’ve raced all over the world during that time with great success,” Cosmo said. “I can’t think of a better way to come back home than to the iconic 12 Hours of Sebring for the final round of the 2020 season.”
