The 2021 Roar Before the 24 will feature a qualifying race that determines the starting order for the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona the following weekend. The announcement breeds new life into the traditional pre-season test which was previously only used to determine pit stall and garage positions.
The race will be 100-minutes in length and will be held on Sunday, January 24.
“The Rolex 24 At Daytona is a special event that is worthy of a unique qualifying format,” said IMSA President John Doonan. “Not unlike the Daytona 500, which has set its field through the Duel At Daytona qualifying races for decades, introducing the Motul Pole Award 100 qualifying race for the Rolex 24 brings a new and exciting dynamic to the Roar.”
Teams will use two drivers per car in the race. How the starting order for the qualifying race will be set is still unknown.
