Tim Sugden and his Purple Dot brand will once again be partnering with Walkenhorst Motorsport to compete in the NLS (VLN) series in 2021 with the effort set to field a new BMW M2 CS for the season.
The Purple Dot/ Walkenhorst programme has provided but VLN-focused full-season race opportunities and, in parallel, a full package of off and on-track support for drivers to qualify for the coveted ‘Ring Permit’ which requires all who compete in VLN/NLS and the Nürburgribg 24 Hours to have displayed sound driving skills and awareness of the unique challenge of the circuit in lower-powered machinery before being allowed to progress up the racing ladder.
Now entering its sixth season the Purple Dot/ Walkenhorst relationship has worked really well says Sugden:
“Walkenhorst are superb partners for us and their professionalism and presentation ensure success on and off the track”.
For 2021 the team will run the new BMW M2 CS which replaces the outgoing M240 as the official car for the BMW class within the NLS. The all-new car is a greatly refined, pure race car built specifically for racing at the BMW motorsport factory.
Tim comments: “The NLS (VLN) series has gone from strength to strength over the past 5 years and is now arguably the biggest employer of drivers in any GT series in Europe”.
The last driver for 2021 is still being finalised and Tim says “We already have 2 drivers signed for the season, including exciting new signing, Matt Greenwood and we are happy to talk to anyone who would be interested in joining them. We will take care of the whole licence and permit course arrangements as we now have a really good experience in this environment”.
The Purple Dot programme has involved many very well known drivers in recent seasons including Will Stevens, Job Van Uitert, Jordan Pepper, Alex Lynn and Sam Tordoff. Whilst most recently working with up and coming stars such as Will Tregurtha and Ben Tuck.
Tim Sugden, Purple Dot: “I’m delighted to be entering the latest, a new phase of the programme, Walkenhorst continue to be great partners and the new M2 CS will prove to be a really exciting race car. Once again we have seen how many professional driver opportunities are provided by the NLS and we are really happy to help drivers along this route.”
Niclas Königbauer, Walkenhorst Team Manager: “We have worked with Tim and Purple Dot for many years now and the programme has worked well introducing new drivers to Walkenhorst and the NLS.”
