Confirmed this morning on Danish Television – Ex F1 drivers, father and son Jan and Kevin Magnussen will join forces at the Le Mans 24 Hours to partner Anders Fjordbach in the #49 High Class Racing Oreca 07 Gibson creating an all-Danish line-up in the car.
Magnussen Snr had already been confirmed for the effort as part of his full season FIA WEC effort with the team but the move marks a long wished for opportunity from Jan to race alongside his son in a significant race.
It will be Jan’s 23rd consecutive entry into Le Mans, a run that began in 1999 with Panoz and that has seen four class wins (all with Corvette), a second place finish overall (in 2003 with Audi Sport Team Goh), and a further four class podium finishes.
Kevin Magnussen switched to sports cars this season with a deal to run in the Ganassi Cadillac in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship, the 2021 Le Mans 24 Hours will be his debut at the great race.
Anders Fjordbach will start his third consecutive Le Mans 24 Hours.
“Super stoked to be associated with Jan and Kevin as they race together for the first time, and to race at the biggest endurance race in the world with the two biggest sports stars in Denmark. It’s as big a moment as any Sportscar driver can dream of.”
Frederic Luquein – CEO of FIA WEC
“I want to sincerely congratulate all involved in this incredible effort – Having Jan and Kevin together in the car will be a fantastic story for all the fans around the world”
Pierre Fillon – President of the ACO
“I’m very happy to see Jan and Kevin teaming up for Le Mans – This adds another line to the history of the event.”
Drivers for the #20 sister High Class Oreca will be announced shortly.
