#77 Dempsey Proton Porsche Repaired, But #56 Team Project 1 Car Withdrawn

After qualifying accidents

There is both good and bad news this morning after a pair of near identical accidents at Raidillon in GTE Am qualifying yesterday left the #77 Dempsey Proton Racing, and #56 Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR-19s badly damaged.

Both drivers, the #77s Christian Ried, and #56 Egidio Perfetti walked away from the incidents, both clipping the inside kerb on the way up from Eau Rouge and losing the rear end of their cars.

Dempsey Proton racing have worked overnight and have declared the #77 ready to race, sadly though the poor luck this week for Team project 1 has continued, the damage to their car being deemed beyond immediate repair here, and with no spare car available the team has withdrawn from the meeting.

A brief team statement this morning reads:

“We worked hard and tried everything, but the bottomland is: #56 is not participating in the FIA WEC 6h Spa. Spa is an unforgiving track and this year it was unforgiving at its best. To lose both cars within a week is a hard pill to swallow for everyone.“

It has therefore been a quite terrible weekend for the German squad, their other full-season WEC car withdrawn after the Prologue after chassis damage resulted from an incident for the #46 car in the hands of Norwegian driver Anders Buchardt.
