The #60 Iron Lynx and #71 Inception Racing Ferrari 488 GTE Evos are in a race against time to effect repairs and/ or replacements after two significant incidents in Saturday mornings Free Practice 2 at Monza.
The first incident befell Brendon Iribe in the #71 car, losing control into Ascari and hitting the wall with the rear of the car. The Kessel Racing crew assisted by Optimum Motorsport are attempting a repair but a replacement car from Michelotto may be required.
Almost at the checkered flag meanwhile there was a multi-car incident, triggered by Claudio Schiavoni in the #60 Iron Lynx Ferrari.
The Italian racer had been passed on the exit of the Lesmos by a trio of prototypes as they completed the last lap of the session.
The three, the #82 Risi Oreca, the #21 Dragonspeed Oreca (Hedman) and the #36 Alpine (Negrao) then slowed for the slow zone at Ascari to allow recovery of the #29 Racing Team Nederland Oreca, off in the gravel, but the #36 was almost immediately hit hard in the rear by the Ferrari, causing heavy damage to the 488, the impact with the Alpine cannoning the #36 into the left rear of the #21.
There is significant but fixable damage to the Oreca, with damage as yet unknown to the front and rear of the Alpine – the French team are progressing with repairs.
(UPDATE – The Inception Racing Team have confirmed the they are withdrawing from the meeting, the repairs required beyond immediate ability too undertake here and a replacement car determined not to be a viable option – They will return at the Le Mans 24 Hours next month).
