Belcar - Euro-Race at Spa - Preview
This weekend will see the running of the fourth
round of the Belcar Championship – at Spa as for Round 3,
but instead of racing for 125 minutes around the Ardennes track,
we’ll see a 240 minute battle, on Sunday evening.
Both Vipers (GLPK – Kuismanen) are again among the most serious
contenders, especially with Vincent Vosse driving in the Kuismanen
GTS-R. His V10 experience should pay off. But other Belcar regulars
are also chasing a good result. Bert Longin returns to Belcar after
having two FIA-GT dates clashing with Belcar weekends. Bert still
is the reigning champion and maybe his return brings some good luck
for the beautiful GLPK Porsche Biturbo. He tested the car last weekend
during a round of the Dutch GT-championship at Zandvoort and won
one of the races.
Anthony Kumpen, who became the father of a daughter
(Laura) recently – congratulations Anthony - will also return
after the same FIA-GT duties. He will race his Viper with Cohen
and Dupont.
Other contenders will be the SPR Corvette, the AD
and RTM Porsches… RTM actually races a fourth car in order
to prepare for the 24 Hours of Spa where they’ll race a 996
GT3-R - driven this weekend by de Gastines, Coenen and Nelissen.
The little Gillet is also preparing for the 24 hours,
but has been forced to adapt the engine capacity from a 3.6 to a
3 l Alfa-engine. The FIA allowed the team on the entry list of the
24 hours only if the manufacturer limited the engine capacity to
3 litres. This loss of power will probably drop them down the order
a little.
Guest
entries are coming from everywhere this weekend. The French squad
Perspective Racing with their Mosler MT900R will join the Belcar
troops. Neugarten, Perrier and Barretto drive the car.
British drivers Pelle and Cook have also entered this weekend’s
race. The first message suggested the deep red Porsche that made
its first appearance at Silverstone in the three hour British GT
race, but Cook seems sure to bring his ex-Hayles Racing Viper now.
Another
serious contender might be the Euser Marcos. Duncan Huisman will
most likely join the experienced Dutchman. This team will be a serious
contender to the Belcar regulars. Last but not least, there will
be an Italian GT3-RS driven by Benedetti, Schiatti and Vial Mario.
Impressive
entry….for a four hour spectacular.
