EPA Approval
Debut Of C12 LaTurbie
Spyker today announces
that it has gained EPA Approval for its C8 range of cars in the
USA.
"This is truly a
dream come true!” said Victor Muller, Spyker CEO, at the Geneva
Motor Show. “Our team has worked so hard with Cosworth Technology
to obtain this certificate which will allow us to import our cars
into the USA, by far our number one market. Also thanks to Audi
AG we have managed to achieve this unrivalled result in relatively
a short period of time. It is hard to express the pride I feel for
those who have made this reality. This is a milestone for our company
comparable to finishing
at Le Mans in 2003 and going public in 2004. We are currently awaiting
the final approval by NHTSA of two waiver applications, upon receipt
of which we will be fully US road legal. NHTSA's decision is expected
shortly."
Certification
of Spyker's long wheel base models (C8 Double12 S and Double12 Spyder)
is expected by Summer 2005.
Spyker’s
presence at the Geneva Show included the international premiere
of its C12 LaTurbie (right), the first Spyker powered by the 6.0
litre W12 Audi engine.
In March 1922,
the Dutch nobleman Hugo Baron van Palland entered his standard Spyker
C4 Tourer (below) in the La Turbie hill climb, winning outright
at an average speed of 45 kph.
In commemoration
of this win the new 12 cylinder Spyker will bear the name LaTurbie.

This new car
has a power output of 500 BHP and 600 Nm of torque. Top speed is
325 km/h or 202 mph, with acceleration of 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph)
in 3.9 seconds.

Prices,
including glass hard top, start at 290.000 Euro, excluding any
taxes and ex factory.
”The C12’s
front end treatment is heavily influenced by the impressive radiator
of the Spyker C4 of the 1920s,” explains Victor Muller. “In
order to house the mighty W12 engine we have widened the Double12
chassis and bodywork by 100 millimeters / 4 inches. Based on the
interest shown by our customers we have decided to put the car in
production and expect worldwide deliveries to commence in the second
half of 2006."
The model range
now comprises the eight cylinder C8 Double12 S, the C8 Double12
Spyder and the twelve cylinder Spyker C12 LaTurbie.
Spyker’s C8 Spyder
GT2R race car is based on the production C8 Spyder, and a pair of
the GT2Rs are entered for Sebring in a fortnight’s time. Two
entries have also been submitted for Le Mans.
“We considered
building a Le Mans prototype car for the GTP class or return to
GT racing with a penalty free Spyker,” says Victor Muller,
of the possible race plans for 2005. “We chose the latter
option and in the Autumn of 2004 started developing the Spyker C8
Spyder GT2R, a race version of the Spyker C8 Spyder."
Sebring will
see the debut of the GT2R.
