[box]”Warm up is the last chance to wreck your car before the race” – Shane Lewis[/box]
Earlier in the session, there was an incident involving the TruSpeed Porsche, which found the wall when Kelly Collins was driving the car. This incident may have been a blessing in disguise for the team, as Kelly reported that the car snapped to the right on him. Better Friday morning than during the race. Kelly was taken to the hospital to be checked out but was released with no reported issues. The car suffered RF damage, but there should be no problem in making the race.
Right near the end of the session, the No. 93 Turner Motorsports BMW backed into the wall with Andy Priaulx at the wheel. This brought a slightly premature ending to the session. Andy too was checked out at the hospital and was released. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the car – it initially appeared to be out of the race – brake failure was reported to have caused the accident – Later updates though seem to indicate that the car are trying to fix the damage, parts stocks allowing, with Super glue being utilised in some areas!.
As far as who did what in GT- well all of the class cars did make it out on track. It was a Porsche-Porsche – Ferrari – Porsche – Audi at the top, led by Magnus. Magnus has had a very strong showing thus far, as they attempt to repeat again in GT.
In the first half of the session, the DP class was rather poorly represented, as only 7 cars from the class had set times. By the time the session ended, all but 2 of the class entries had made it out on track. Up front it was again a Ganassi 1-2, with the 02 the only car to dip into the 1:41 range.
The cars that did not make it out were the No. 27 BTE Sport Ford Riley and the No. 6 MSR Ford Riley.
Before the session, the Corvette teams were handed new restrictors of unknown size. Supposedly the teams were told to simply install the restrictors – don’t measure them. Last season the Corvettes ran unrestricted, as they did at the test earlier this season. It was just before the track time kicked off here that the teams received their restrictors.
GX had a 50% appearance ratio. The class was again led by a Cayman, this time from BGB Motorsports. Not making it out were the pole winners, Napleton and the 00 and 25 Mazdas.
