It’s a glorious Floridian day here at Daytona.
AJ Foyt is regaling the press room with tales of Daytona past and with his plans for the Indycar season to come – On lead driver Takuma Sato he had this to offer “He’s got a lot of Kamikaze in him, but he’s a smart guy too and a heck of a racecar driver.”
Romain Dumas was remaining tight lipped on the subject of the Porsche LMP1 programme – The car is expected, at present, to test for the first time in the middle of year.
Steve Bunkhall had plenty of wisdom to impart on the GT class here, “The Ferrari is a big wide car and needs to be trimmed right out for speed on the banking to stay with the rest of the pack. We have a very good race car and think we’ll be in the mix. The problem here is the balance you strike – If you don’t trim it out you won’t get by even a slow Porsche on the banking and you’ll never get by them on the infield even though you’re much faster there.
Core Autosports Jon Bennet is planning on running at least a couple more G-A races this year (with Austin and the Watkins Glen 6 Hours mentioned) as he looks for more seat time – He’s also entered in the IMSA GT3 Challenge alongside the ALMS too.
Franz Konrad’s name is on the polesetting #32 Porsche as the fifth (and likely reserve) driver.
Peter Baron meanwhile confirmed that his Starworks concern has posted a 2013 entry for the WEC but was not ready to confirm the details of the programme: “We’re working on a number of options, drivers, backers, cars there’s a lot in the mix. It’s certainly true to say though that an HPD chassis would be my first choice.”
