There’s no getting away from the fact that the death of Allan Simonsen has affected all here at DSC pretty profoundly.
His funeral on Tuesday though was an inspirational affair, the Cathedral in Odense was packed, not just with his family and his friends from motorsport but from other friends, people who had known Allan for his whole life.
And it was one of these people, a family friend, that said something that made a difference for me – “He was never unhappy, he was always excited about what he was going to be doing next, and it was always about racing – It lit him up.”
Then the irrepressible Thorkild Thyrring stood up at the beautifully staged post funeral gathering and asked all present to pause and remember one moment about Allan – Just a single moment which they could recall that summed up why he was so special – I couldn’t do it, because there are so many of those moments.
But it was a simple and brilliant way of getting us all to move on.
We’ve still got some important memories of Allan that we will be bringing you in the coming days but we’ll be moving forwards too from here on in.
Allan though will remain in our memories forever as a racer, as a star and as a mate that was fun to know wherever in the world you met him.
