The organisers of the Dunlop 24H Dubai have announced a new event for the 2014 24H Series. On May 30 and 31 Circuit Park Zandvoort will be the venue for the inaugural Dunlop 12H Zandvoort. A full grid of 50 GTs and touring cars is expected to race at Zandvoort on the Ascension weekend.
One week before the final race of the 2013 24H Series, the 24H Barcelona, Creventic announced the Zandvoort round, which will be jointly promoted with the circuit. “We are delighted that we now finally are able to add a real international endurance race to our calendar,” said Circuit Park Zandvoort C.O.O. Erik Weijers. “Together with CREVENTIC and DNRT, we will do our utmost to ensure that it will be a great event for competitors and spectators alike.” DNRT (Dutch National Racing Team) will handle the sporting organisation together with Creventic.
Creventic is hoping to attract a large number of Dutch teams for their home event. “It will be exciting to see whether the Dutch teams can turn their home advantage into victory,” says Creventic’s Gerrie Willems “Several strong foreign endurance racing teams have already expressed their interest in this race. I am really curious.”
With the May 30 and 31 date Creventic seems to aim at German teams, with VLN and ADAC GT Masters currently not expected to be racing that weekend. Teams racing in the Blancpain Endurance Series are unlikely to join as the SRO-promoted series is set to race at Silverstone that same weekend.
Pre-registration for the 12H Zandvoort has opened and DSC has been told that 14 cars have already been entered. Creventic is also working on a fifth race for 2014, with a race in Italy in spring considered as one of the options.
