The penultimate round of the 2013 ADAC GT Masters took place at the weekend on the one of the longest track of the season, the 5.9-km Slovakia Ring as the German GT3 series travelled to the Bratislava circuit for the first time. You can see all the action on Motors TV on Wednesday evening (18th Sept) at 21.00 BST (20.15 CET in Europe). The two one-hour races are presented in full by Mark Cole and Carlton Kirby.
Corvette pairing Italian Diego Alessi and German Daniel Keilwitz head the points after their fourth win of the year last time out at the Lausitzring, but are only three points ahead of German Robert Renauer, who gave Porsche its first win of the season at Lausitz. German BMW duo Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann are third with two wins and three seconds; Baumann is one of the very few competitors to have raced on the Slovakia Ring, and says “the track is very difficult and takes getting used to, very fast but with some really slow turns. There are few natural features and it is quite flat, so orientation can be a problem. And look out for gravel on the road, it causes punctures.”
As is the norm, strict balance of performance keeps the GT Masters, now in its 7th year, competitive. The top 12 cars on the grid for Race 2 at Bratislava – the 100th of the series – were covered by less than one second. Just one round remains after the Slovakia Ring – Hockenheim on 30th Sept, where with 50 points on offer to a double winner, any one of a dozen drivers could still be in the running for the title.
