Pilbeam MP100 Revealed

We wrote last month about progress with the planned Pilbeam LMP2 and now the car has a name that we can share – The Pilbeam MP100.

The car is, effectively, a wholesale evolution of the previous MP93 but features a completely new aerodynamic package and a change too to the suspension system as a result of the forces imposed by increasing the downforce. The artists impressions released by Pilbeam today show clearly a ‘Toyota-esque’ extended rear wheel arch providing, effectively a full width rear wing, the first we have seen so far on a cost capped LMP2.

ChassisSim performance prediction software has been used to assess all all aspects of the car and much use too was made of CFD in designing the optimum aero shape, Pilbeam working alongside TotalSim.

Again as revealed in our earlier piece the first MP100 will be powered by a Mountune 4 cylinder Turbo which features a very driver-friendly torque curve and “excellent fuel economy”.

South African team, Zoo Racing, who have already raced their Pilbeam MP98 2 litre sports racer with some success, will campaign the MP100 under the direction of Dr Greg Mills. The car is seen below on the formation lap for the African 6 Hours at Phakisa earlier this year, a race it went on to win.

The final race programe for the team is yet to be finalised but DSC believes that WEC and ELMS options are under consideration.
