There have been over two months since the final ADAC GT Masters race was held at Hockenheim, and of course the silly season is already in full swing. With the entry process already open it looks like 2014 will see once again strong fields fighting for the victory in the 16 races held at eight different venues.
Multiple teams have already signed up for the championship resulting in an entry list that currently contains around 20 cars. New to the championship will be Rowe Racing, which is planning a full season assault on the championship with at least one of their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. In the past they have mainly concentrated on the VLN and the Nürburgring 24 Hours, but their only start away from the Nürburgring resulted in a strong showing at the Spa 24 Hours, where they were fighting for the win until a broken brake disc resulted in a premature end.
At least five Porsche 911s will be back in the championship, with the likelihood being that the three Porsche teams from 2013, Herberth Motorsport, Farnbacher Racing and Schütz Motorsport, will all return in 2014.
An expanded effort is certainly on the cards for Schütz Motorsport. Actually having the biggest presence is the Audi R8, with a total of eight cars already on the entry list. Christian Abt’s team will certainly be back and gunning for the championship with their three R8 attack, while Audi MS Racing is also hopeful of going for overall victories in their second season in the championship.
The reigning championship winning car, the Corvette Z06 GT3, will be back with four cars on the provisional entry list, most likely all from Callaway Competition. Schubert Motorsport have already announced their intentions on making another run at the championship and an entry of at least two BMW Z4 GT3s is certainly in the books. At least one Lamborghini Gallardo and a Chevrolet Camaro will be present on the grid; both are likely fielded by a team built around Hans Reiter, the man behind both of those cars.
It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out and what drivers can be signed up for the championship, but it will most certainly be another cracking year.
