With entry applications for the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours now closed, Boutsen Ginion Racing has announced that it beat the deadline and has lodged an entry for its LMP2 Oreca 03 Nissan for the third year running, and that Vincent Capillaire will be its nominated driver should they be accepted.
The team finished 10th and 11th in LMP2 in the last two editions, while Capillaire has yet to race in the 24 Hours, but has raced on the Circuit de la Sarthe – the Le Mans native finishing fourth in the Formula Le Mans Cup race in 2009.
The success or otherwise of their application will be revealed on February 13th in Paris when the full list of accepted entries will be announced.
Meanwhile, the team has also confirmed that it will be returning to the Blancpain Endurance Series in 2014 with a McLaren MP4-12C and that Karim Ojjeh has signed for a second season.
“We are pleased to continue our adventure with Karim Ojjeh,” said Team Manager Olivier Lainé. “Karim knows the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 very well by now and this will help us to achieve our future goals as 2014 will be a year full of challenges for our team.”
2013 season four DNFs for Ojjeh’s cars before a second place in GTR (21st overall) at the Nürburgring redeemed the season.
“It was a very hard winter season in terms of deciding whether to stay with Boutsen and McLaren or whether to switch to another team and car,” said the Saudi driver. “The amount of work and time spent in talking to the teams and manufacturers is not something that should be underestimated. In the end, I am putting my trust for the 2014 season in the Boutsen Ginion team again. The team will do its utmost best to persevere and McLaren has some unfinished business left. Come April and the first race in Monza, we will be ready to fight!”
