Italy’s Black Team (known up to 2011 as Racing Team Edil Cris) have announced their return to the International GT Open in 2014 and that they will be switching marques, with their usual Ferraris making way for a brace of Nissan GT-R GT3s; the first time that the Japanese brand will have had a presence in the series.
“We have worked very hard to get to this deal and I am thrilled to be back to the International GT Open, which will be the core of our 2014 racing programme, with such great cars,” said team owner Giancristiano Cavalleri. “For us, who had always been linked to the Prancing Horse, it will be a big change, but we are thrilled and determined to do well.”
The team has mainly raced previously in GT Open and Italian GT, but more recently the GT Sprint International Series was its main focus. The deal for the Nissans was inked at JRM’s offices last week.
“It’s great to have a new manufacturer represented in the GT Open, and such a great car as the Nissan GT-R in this year’s grids,” said GT Open boss Jesús Pareja. “It’s also great to see Black Team back with such an ambitious project and I am sure they will be very competitive.”
