We got news as we were about to leave Orlando on our return from Sebring of the untimely death of racing driver Luca Moro, the Italian succumbing to a brain tumour at far too young an age.
Luca had a controversial start to his racing career, after a successful start to his international exploit, including a podium finish in the FIA GT Championship alongside long time driving partner Wolfgang Kaufmann, he was given a two year ban after failing a drugs test and then a further ban after entering several races under a different name, Luciano de Silva, during which time he finished second overall in the 2007 Dubai 24 Hours.
Happily he bounced back from all of that to become a regular racer in recent years with class wins in the FLM class of the Le Mans Series and with LMP2 runs for both Murphy Prototypes and the Lotus LMP2 squad. He competed at Le Mans with the Lotus team in 2012.
Our condolences to his family and friends.
