The brand new FIA WEC App was launched this evening at a Press Conference hosted by Pierre Fillon and Gerard Neveu.
The ‘Second Screen’ app is designed to supplement the existing TV coverage which Fillon said was “very important and would continue to improve”
The new app was designed to “help an already high level Championship to raise its profile” said Pierre Fillon, the programme to develop the new resource is an ACO led initiative which has been in train for around 2 years, the design and development of the app undertaken by AMP Visual and Netco Sports, the company responsible for the FIFA World Cup app amongst others.
“We want to attract new fans, from all over the world, and we want to attract younger fans too.”
Available for any device capable of running iPhone or Android applications, the FIA WEC second screen app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes store or the Google Play store and has two levels of access.
Some of the functions will be available for free including:
HOME: Next event countdown, news and videos.
LIVE TIMING: “Light information” regarding the timing for Qualifying sessions and Race.
HIGHLIGHTS: One week after each race, 52 minutes of race highlights will be posted.
STANDINGS: FIA World Endurance Championship standings for drivers, teams, and manufacturers.
MEDIA: Videos, Interviews, Photo Galleries.
NEWS:
RACES: FIA WEC calendar and circuit overviews.
TEAM: Detailed information about drivers, teams and manufacturers entered in the Championship.
SOCIAL MEDIA: Integration of the Facebook page and twitter #FIAWEC feed for more interactivity. With Live text.
In addition there will be further features behind a paywall in a Premium Season Pack:
LIVE COVERAGE: Includes full live video of the 7 races (not including Le Mans for which there is an additional charge) and qualifying sessions.
LIVE TIMING: Access to full live timing including best laps, position in category, gaps, average speed, pits, category filter… The GPS based marshalling system will allow you to know the location of each car on the track!
ONBOARD: Access to onboard cameras. And the ability to select a favourite car and follow the race from inside the cockpit.

After round 2 in Belgium, the application will then switch to become the second screen for the 24 Heures du Mans before switching back to the FIA WEC in September for the 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas. We truly believe this is the future of following and enjoying Le Mans style endurance races.”

Most of the features are free but some of the more interactive items are available for a small fee, which is the equivalent of just €2,85 per race for the season pack, which offers great value for money.”
