Harry Tincknell’s tale of taking the Harrods McLaren up the Goodwood hill jangled the bells for the DSC Editor, this the very car that really made the difference for an, until then, general motorsport follower.
The McLaren F1 GTR is still, now almost 20 years later, a massive motorsport icon and now everyone has a chance to experience a lap of Silverstone aboard one of the Harrods car’s sisters!
Andy Bruce is another man who has held a candle for the McLaren since those heady days – Happily for Andy though his hard work hs left him with the wherewithal to own one of the original short tail cars.
His car, chassis 013R, is an ex Team Lark (Kazamuchi Goh) machine, one of two 1996 F1 GTRs supplied new to Team Goh in Japan to contend the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship under the Team Lark banner.
It was driven by Naoki Hattori and Ralf Schumacher and took three race wins that season making a huge contribution to the Championship win for Team Lark.
1997 saw the car finish 9th at the Suzuka 1,000 Kms driven by Tsuchiya/ Nakaya/ Sekiya and the car also has Le Mans heritage too, though it DNFed at Le Sarthe in 1997 driven by Tsuchiya/ Nakaya/ Ayles.
Andy will be taking part in the Silverstone Classic in just under a fortnight’s time and is offering a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for a lucky punter to win a passenger ride in the Mclaren F1GTR.
Andy is raising funds for the Chestnut Tree House Childrens Hospice in Sussex, the only facility of its kind in the county, which cares for life-limited children and young adults aged 0-19, and provides support for their families.
There can be few more deserving causes.
In return for a £10 donation per ticket (and a maximum of 1000 tickets will be sold) the passenger ride will be raffled . The more you donate the more tickets you buy.

Andy will close the raffle at max of 1000 tickets or on Friday the 18th July with the winner announced on Andy’s Twitter Account next saturday @andy74b
Remember to put you name on the donation!!
Good luck to all that decide to contribute, and good luck in particular to Andy in reaching his fundraising goal.
