Matt Griffin Returns To British GT At Brands

As Ferrari works driver Matt Griffin put together his 2014 racing schedule, he found himself in the fortunate but tricky situation of having more offers than available weekends; and one of those that he couldn’t accommodate was a season of British GT (leaving him only with drives in FIA WEC, ELMS, GT Open, TUSCC, Blancpain Endurance Series and the Bathurst 24 Hours).

With Richard Lyons unavailable for the next BGT round at Brand Hatch, however, the Irish racer has been drafted in by Amato Ferrari to join Thai racer Pasin Lathouras in the #29 Ferrari 458 GT3 for the two-hour contest on August 31st, to his obvious delight.

“I’m really pleased to be returning to the British GT Championship as it means that I’ll keep my run going of at least one race each season since 2003,” he told DSC from Spain, where he’s somehow managed to squeeze in a holiday between his extensive racing and testing commitments. “I’ve been following the season closely and it’s obviously very competitive again, and even though we’ll be carrying an extra 75kg of ballast because of our driver gradings, I’m confident we can push for a result. Pasin lacks experience, but he’s done very well in his first season so far and it’s clear he has pace.”

Despite his long association with AF Corse, Griffin has only previously had one outing with the team in British GT. This was the Silverstone 500 in 2013, when he and Duncan Cameron finished fourth.
