LMGTE Pro
The #97 Aston Martin takes the win, the first of the year for the team in GTE Pro, but Stefan Mucke/ Darren Turner’s fifth in FIA WEC competition, and Aston Martin Racing’s 6th GTE Pro win in the FIA WEC.
Turner and Mucke have therefore won races in all three years of WEC competition so far, matching the achievement of Messrs Bruni, Vilander, Fisichella and Lietz.
Aston Martin have now won a race in GTE Pro in every WEC season so far, again matching Ferrari and Porsche in that regard.
It hauls the #97 crew up the points order, but they still trail the Championship leaders (the #51 AF Corse Ferrari crew) by a mighty 52 points.
Fred Makowiecki closes the gap slightly on the Championship leaders but still trails by 25 points – With Marco Holzer’s withdrawal from the factory race squad it leaves Mako as the only man in second spot in the points.
Porsche though have closed to just 4 points away from Ferrari’s total in the GT manufacturers title chase. Aston Martin have closed the gap too but still lie 37 points astray.
Porsche have finished on the podium at every race so far in 2014.
LMGTE Am
The #95 crew consolidate their Championship lead, now 33 points ahead.
They now lead their team-mates in the #98 Aston Martin, their COTA win moved them above both the #88 Proton Porsche and #61 AF Corse Ferrari in the standings.
The win for the #98 Aston Martin makes it four class wins in the WEC for Christoffer Nygaard.
It was the first WEC class win for both Pedro Lamy and Paul Dalla Lana.
Aston Martin Racing add to their record tally of WEC GTE Am wins, it now stands at 8.
Aston Martin’s double class win at COTA (their second this season) brings them level now with Ferrari in all time WEC GTE class wins – 14 across both classes.
Aston Martin Racing has had a car on the GTE Am podium at every race since Brazil 2013. Across both classes that run goes back to Le Mans 2012!
The #98 Aston Martin, #61 Ferrari and #88 Porsche crews are now separated by just three points for second place in the title race.
It’s the second consecutive podium finish for the #88 Proton Competition Porsche crew.
Cota was the first time this season that GTE Am has not had a Ferrari on the podium.
